The proposed Innovation Centre on the Dartford Park development is a three storey 'flagship' building of approximately 30,000 sq ft gross internal floor area including service core and roof space plant areas. The base building comprises open plan fitted out office space capable of sub division into units from 225 sq ft up to 1000 sq ft. most of which will be used for innovation and incubation space for growing and start-up businesses for both technology based and traditional office uses. The building contains reception area formed around an atrium, a marketing suite, meeting rooms, cafeteria, exhibition area and generous general circulation areas, designed to facilitate interaction between tenants. The Innovation Centre will be the home for the management, business support, venture capital and local University input into the Innovation Quarter and the Science Park.

The building sits upon a plinth of fairfaced concrete and has bookends at either end of terracotta tiles beyond which project the escape stairs. In order to temper the light and temperature levels within the atrium we have proposed a two storey brise soleil, which folds away from the building to form a canopy that will announce to visitors the entrances into the Innovation Centre. The main glazing is of a curtain walling system but we have emphasized the horizontality of the building with the shiplap profile spandrel panels, which have only a silicon joint between them and appear as a continuous extrusion along the length of the building.
